Great Danes are playful dogs. They love almost everyone and they want to be around people. This breed will definitely enjoy a half an hour walk with dad or even just chilling in the couch with mom. They will also enjoy a five-minute ride around the neighborhood or a road trip to the nearest beach in your area. Yes, most dogs love to ride in the car. Be it a ride to granny's home or just a trip to the vet, riding a car will surely paint smiles on the faces of your Great Danes.

Get your dog to enjoy the car ride and then off you can go wherever your desires take you. Here are some tips to make the car ride enjoyable for you and your dog.

- Begin training your dog to ride in the car at an early age. Place your puppy in the car with the engine off. Feed him a treat and repeat this several times before actually going for a car ride. While your dog is sitting in the car, turn on the engine and observe his reactions. You can go for a short car ride if your dog seems comfortable. Go somewhere where your pet will enjoy so that he will quickly learn to associate the car ride with fun places such as the park or pet store.

- To prevent your Great Danes from accidents or getting sick in the car, do not give them anything to eat an hour or two before the ride. Do not allow them to drink excessively and remember to take a potty break before the ride.

- Ensure your dog's safety while riding in the car by using safety devices such as dog car seat belts, dog car safety seats, carriers and auto barriers. These devices will protect your dog in case of accident and will also prevent your dog from jumping into the front of the car or out of the car while you're driving. Before taking your dog for a ride in the car, get him used to these safety devices first to make the car ride less stressful as well as enjoyable.

- Consider the weather. Make sure that your dog is not sitting in direct sunlight. Take plenty of stops and provide lots of cold water to drink.

- Never leave a dog unattended in the car. The inside of the car is not safe for a pet even with the window closed or water available.

- Make sure that your dog wears an identification collar tag that contains your contact information. A supposed enjoyable trip may turn into a disaster when your pet got lost along the way and worst, if he is not wearing an identification tag.
