Scottish Provident had published its critical illness reports as from May 2007. This report could have demonstrated the fact that the firm may have paid around GBP 95.5 million on critical illness claims in 2006. Around 57 percent of critical illness claims may have been for cancer while about 5 percent may have been for juvenile or children cover. The children critical illness cover may be automatically included in the policy by most companies nowadays.

Also, according to Scottish Provident, a total of 1566 critical illness claims may have been reviewed. From this around 1257 claims may have been successfully paid. Therefore around 309 critical illness claims may have been left unpaid. Out of these, nearly 9 percent may have been turned down due to not meeting policy definitions. On the other hand approximately 10.7 percent may have also been rejected due to non disclosure.

Moreover, juvenile cover may have become an important aspect of the critical illness policy. Let’s have a look.

When a parent buys a critical illness cover, the prime target may not be to also search for the inclusion of juvenile cover. But the impact of a sick child on the parent’s moral and financial character may be considerable. So, it may be better to ensure that the juvenile cover is also included with the critical illness policy. One important fact is that the children critical illness cover may be offered by many insurance companies and at no extra cost. Thus the juvenile critical illness cover stands up as a must have cover just in case it may be needed in the future.

As seen above, a critical illness such as cancer tends to affect many people. Similarly, children may also contract cancer. As per the Cancer Research Campaign, the number of children who survive cancer may have doubled over the last 30 years. More precisely, around 7 out of 10 children may now survive this critical illness compared to 3 out 10 in the year 1960. Furthermore, as per the National statistics Online, the incidence rate of cancer among children may not have greatly changed during the past 40 years. In the year 2000, approximately 1400 new cases of this critical illness may have been diagnosed among children in the UK. Around one third of these may have been leukaemia (blood cancer).

Additionally, the claim value for the children critical illness cover may be set to a limit. For example, GBP 20,000 and may apply for children falling between the ages of 30 days to 18 years. The assessment of critical illness claims may not be as severe as that of adults but most important aspects of the cover may be closely reviewed before the lump sum is awarded. A claim made under the juvenile critical illness cover may not affect the parent’s cover or cause it to terminate.

While critical illness conditions such as heart attack and cancer may be the roots for most claims among adults, they may be only ranked 5th and 6th in the children’s list. The money obtained from the juvenile cover could be used for medical treatment, nursing care, allow parents some time off work and even to go on holiday for rehabilitation.
