The Toyota Prius is a hybrid electric midsize car developed and manufactured by the Toyota Motor Corporation. It is one of the first mass-produced and marketed hybrid electric cars. It was then introduced worldwide in 2001. The Toyota Prius has got high respect from auto reviewers that it sets the standard for environmentally friendly hybrid transportation.
As the years passed, the Prius quickly gained market share with its hybrid technology and family friendly design. For 2008, the Toyota adds a more improvement to the said model.
“The 2008 Prius is a 4 door, 5 passenger family sedans, available in 3 trims, ranging from the Base to the Touring. Both trims are equipped with a standard 1.5 liter, I4, 110 horsepower, hybrid engine that achieves 48 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on the highway. A variable speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.” The hybrid category is not for people who are fond of high performing sedans but the Prius impresses them on how close they are compared with the performance of a normal gas fueled car.
Except from being a green car, the Prius is one of the most recognizable cars on the road. It became beautiful because of its simplicity but had become more aerodynamically styled than its predecessor. Most reviewers describe it as “a modern and highly aerodynamic five-door hatchback body.” It has exterior features such as power mirror, power rack and pinion steering and a tilt steering column.
Prius interior is well-constructed and made of high-quality materials. It may look small on the outside, but actually in interior it is so spacious that it would be very convenient for passengers and cargo alike. It features remote keyless entry, and a tilt steering wheel with redundant climate and audio controls are standard. There are some unique controls that may confuse drivers at first, including the electronic gear selector, parking brake and start button.
According to usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/ “The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) awards the Prius four out of five stars for its ability to protect both passengers in a frontal impact And earns five out of five for protecting the front passenger in a side impact..” Standard safety features include antilock brakes with brake assist, traction control, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. Stability control is a package option.
This car continues to be a popular choice for those who are looking for a high quality hybrid car.
