Dreamweaver is a web development application created by Macromedia. After Adobe Systems acquired Macromedia in the year 2005, it became Adobe Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver has two versions - Windows and Mac operating systems. The latest versions of Dreamweaver support JavaScript, CSS and a few other scripting languages and frameworks such as JSP, ColdFusion, ASP.NET and so on.
Dreamweaver has a WYSIWYG editor, which helps coders, and non-coders edit web pages. Dreamweaver eliminates the need to sit and write HTML tags in a notepad file. Users can insert tags with the help of menus inside the software. Early on, Dreamweaver received criticism from some developers saying "It is not producing code up to W3C standards"; newer versions helped Dreamweaver overcome this criticism. Dreamweaver also supports CSS and a few other ways to enhance page layout.
Dreamweaver allows you to develop websites and then view them without switching to a browser. The Adobe software application has "Find and Replace" options to make code edits easy. Similar to other HTML editors, you can edit the HTML files locally and then upload them to a web server using WebDAV, FTP or SFTP.
In the version 6, Dreamweaver has a special feature known as "Syntax highlighting" for the following:
