Reciprocal link building was quite popular in the beginning since it had the dual advantage of search engine optimization and increased traffic direction. However as the search engines eventually become more practical and rigid in ranking of sites by avoiding sites that intended to hood wink the former by automated reciprocal link building spree. Now the major search engine Google do not consider the reciprocal links as a factor for its ranking by suitably modifying their ranking algorithms. Even though the reciprocal algorithms are a means of increasing the traffic especially if one have an arrangement with rival sites or sites dealing in similar products. One may wonder whether reciprocal linking with the rival web sites may be of any use! However the fact remains that such arrangements help build healthy competitions and mutual benefit. On the other hand the web site that sells cheese products if prefers a reciprocal linking with a weight loss site one can imagine the result!

Writing articles on web sites and giving the link of one’s site is another effective way to boost the traffic. Alternatively the site may also be enriched with informative contents that helps lure other sites to link yours and also attract information crazy visitors to get landed in your site.

Submission of one’s link to a good Web directory is another link building technique to get more traffic. Web directories are also a source of inbound links. The sites in search of links get the same from web directories. One has to be careful in linking with quality sites that is more important than the mere number of links.

Link building addresses the twin objectives of traffic direction and search engine optimization and as such cannot be ignored by a prudent webmaster.
