Reciprocal linking
Increased traffic to one’s website is the ultimate end of any site owner, that boost his income by reaching a wide spectrum of client base, and they continue to use new and improved techniques to achieve this objective Unique and regular revision of contents, affiliation and linking are some of the common methods adopted by the site owners to realize this objective.
Reciprocal linking is a term used for mutually beneficial linking of web sites in order to increase the traffic and market one’s product more effectively. This is considered as one of the most efficient ways of increasing the traffic, as well as to boost the search engine rankings, the ultimate factor in determining the popularity of the site.
Let us see what a reciprocal linking is? It is a link to a web site that also carries a similar link back to your site, this is the sites so linked are mutually supporting each other for their traffic and web site rankings. It may also be defined as a common thread among mutually linked sites. The concept is a mutually agreed and accepted business partnership wherein one of the site owners does not bother some of his clients leaving his site and taking a look at the other site to which he has linked his own.
As the site owners continue their experiments, to increase the traffic to their site and to realize the search engine optimization, some of the leading search engines like Google constantly innovate to make the qualifying parameters, for determining the ranking in their search engines, more complex and error free. Google is said to be more vigilant in this aspect and it appears that recently they have discounted the linking factor, in determining the ranking of sites in their engine by redefining the ranking algorithms.
During the initial years, the linking partner as the reciprocal linking is often referred to, was of immense use for the search engine optimization and was an indicator of the use of the reciprocal links to one’s site.
The increased swapping of the links by the web sites that too by automated process has degenerated the credibility of this concept and the more efficient search engines could no longer accept this factor for their rankings and eventually removed the linking parameter from the ranking factor.

The question whether the web sites should continue this reciprocal linking any more has to be examined from two angles. First, why one needs to go for a reciprocal linking and secondly what type of sites are to be linked? Having ruled out the benefit of better ranking in search engines by linking, the only other advantage the web site enjoys by this arrangement is the increased traffic at no extra cost but for some software to automate the process. As such the reciprocal linking is still useful as long as one does not overdo it. Another point to bear in mind is that any reciprocal linking to be useful for the web sites; it needs to deal in same or similar topics. It may not be wise for one to link one’s web site on cheese products to another on weight loss.
