The Mergui archipelago, which extends north from Victoria Harbor for 250 kilometers, offers endless great sailing possibilities among the hundreds of islands and keys. After being off-limits for a long time, in recent years the authorities have started to open up for limited tourism.
The country of Burma is officially known as Union of Myanmar. It's the largest Southeast Asian country and ranks fortieth over the entire world. It is a little bit bigger than Afghanistan but is somewhat smaller than the state of Texas. The southern portion of the country is made up of mountain slopes, such as of Bilauktaung Range. On the north, you have several river valleys like Irrawaddy. Most of all, the entire country has one of the most impressive coastlines, spanning from the Bengal Bay to a territory in Thailand. The sceneries can be well enjoyed by anyone who goes sailing in Myanmar.
Mergui archipelago, also known as Myeik, is situated at the southern tip of Myanmar. There are more than 500 exotic islands that compose it. It's also very well endowed of floral and fauna, perhaps because of its virtual isolation. Its inhabitants live either on boats or on land depending on the season. Mergui is most of all popular because of its majestic underwater sceneries.
When you go sailing in Myanmar, you can take your yacht to two main districts: Mergui or Kawthaung. You can also opt to fish in the area, as there are countless of species underneath the water surface. Tourists can also dive, but you have to take care, as the waters are also a home to sharks, whale sharks, and manta rays. Nevertheless, the reefs will be more than enough for you to take the risks. When in Mergui, you can go to Western Rocky, which is 75 kilometers away from Myanmar coast. It has sloping reef and pinnacles. There is also a tunnel that is full of nurse sharks and crayfish. Their presence is also favored by those inhabitants who love to observe sharks. Don't miss, also, the islands of Davis, Barwell, North Rock, and Clara.
From Myanmar, you can take a holiday to the waters of Phuket, Thailand. The neighboring island can give a wide variety of activities. You may visit its its waterfalls, the biggest in Thailand. You can also take a walk into the town, which is filled with numerous shops selling very cheap goods. There are also lots of architectural structures that demonstrate the influence of Chinese to Thai. The Old Town is a nice place to simply walk around and watch the scenery.
If you're looking for real privacy, you may want to go sailing in Myanmar. There are still countless islands that are left unexplored but relatively safe. You can dock your yacht here and enjoy some sense of seclusion.
