Sixty percent of the total population of the feral tigers on the planet resides in India. The Indian population of tigers, elephants, Asian lions, and other huge wildlife being some of the most beautiful in all of Asia. You can climb upon the back of an elephant, travelling through the long grass and feel the thrill of seeing a tiger hunt its target. Female Sumatran Tigers may weigh about two hundred seventy pounds, in comparison adult male Siberian Tigers can be as heavy as eight hundred pounds. The Royal Bengal tiger is amongst the most majestic species of the tiger. In this century alone, several sub species of tigers have been driven to anihalation.Tiger, Panther and Wild dogs are usually sighted in both the clear grass lands and sholas forests. Civet cat and jungle cat also live in the sholas.

Rhinos, elephants, deer and bears can be watched in their natural habitat. India, without question, is unique in the beauty and diversity of its wildlife. Mixed with the splendor and diversity of its vegetation, India simply turns out to be a paradise for wild life enthusiasts. There are many national parks and wildlife reserves that can give you the glimpse of the animals that arent readily found elsewhere. Indian wildlife has now become a major draw for most of the tourists coming to India.

India is a land of fascinating natural wilderness manifesting in a multitude of species of animals and birds found in the country. India harbours 60% of the planets tiger numbers, 50% of Asian elephants, 80% of the one-horned rhinoceros and the whole remaining population of Asiatic lion.The rich and fascinating array of India's fauna can be seen in the 80 national parks, 440 reserves and 23 tiger sanctuaries created by the Government, in an attempt to maintain this vital resource. India closely conserves and protects its wildlife. Owing to India’s large geographical circumstances, forest vegetation varies from zone to zone. Indian wild animals are sometimes ferocious but they have high aesthetic value and the authorities have started a variety of projects for the preservation of the forest ecological balance.

You may sometimes see tigers, Indian hare, wild dog, barking deer, Indian fox, sloth bear, striped hyena, panther, mouse deer, four horned antelope, blue bull, ratel and Indian porcupine. Kanha also has some 200 species of birds. In the Indian deserts, the most discussed bird is the Great Indian bustard. In western Himalayas, one can see birds like Himalayan monal pheasant, western tragopan, koklass, white crested khalij cheer pheasant, griffon vultures, lammergiers, choughs, ravens. The Indian Cobra is known around the world as a highly venomous snake that feasts on rodents, lizards, and frogs. As well as biting, the Indian cobra can attack or defend itself from a distance by "spitting" venom, which, if it enters its opponent's eyes, causes severe pain and damage.
