A business card will always play a very important role in advertising yourself, especially if your business card is done right.

It seems as if it would be difficult to do it wrong given how basic most business cards are, right? I mean there isn’t exactly a lot to them, just a company name and contact information, so how hard can it be to make one work?

The truth is there are a lot of finer details to making a really good business card. Let’s go over some of the issues to look at when you start your business card printing.

The first is contact information. People are inclined to contact whatever number is listed first when multiple phone numbers are put on a business card. Make sure the first number you list is the one you care most about them calling. Also be sure to put all contact information on the front of the business card.

Many people are tempted to put various pieces of information on the back of a card, and for some businesses this is a perfectly fine idea. If your business is based on appointments having a schedule across the back is a great way to give people that additional information. The problem is when people put contact information on the back where it doesn’t belong. You want this kind of information in the easiest to find place, and you want it in the right order with the most important numbers listed first.

The next thing to look for is the type of paper you use. Making thicker business cards may not seem like that big of a deal, but it can have a big impact on a person’s perception of you. The thinner the card is the cheaper it appears and the more it makes people think the company is flimsy.

A good, solid card stock just feels firm and professional. You want them walking away thinking to themselves that you’re going to be a reliable place to do business with. You might not think the thickness of the card means much, but others might, so be careful to use the best kind of card stock possible.

How your company name appears on the card is something to be watchful of. Quite often a company name doesn’t directly connect to the kind of services provided. I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of company names before where you just couldn’t figure out what product they’d make.

When it comes to business cards this is something to be watchful for if your name is a bit ambiguous. Having a quote beneath your company name that details exactly what kind of services you provide can easily correct this and add a nice, personal touch to the look of the card.

Finally, while unique designs are always welcome when it comes to business cards, don’t get too carried away, especially with the shape. Many people have business card holders that are designed for one particular shape. If you make your business card too large, they aren’t likely to even bother keeping it around.

If done right, business cards are very effective at keeping your name on someone’s mind. You just have to be careful when using business card printing that you don’t end up making something that gives someone a bad impression rather than a good one.
