Microsoft Dynamics GP is a mid-market business accounting software package that runs on top of a Microsoft SQL Server database. It is a part of the Microsoft Business Solutions family. The product was originally made by Great Plains Software, an independent company located in Fargo, North Dakota, which was founded by Doug Burgum. In late 2000, Microsoft announced the purchase of Great Plains Software for $1.1 billion. This acquisition was completed in April 2001. Microsoft Dynamics is organized in Series, which comprehend several modules within each one. The typical Series are Financial, Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Project, Payroll, Manufacturing, Company and System. The latter two contain all the necessary modules to configure various company wide and system wide options. Each Series involves a full cycle of transactions for that particular Series, for example, the Sales Series implements the Order to Cash process. In addition to the typical "out-of-the-box" modules, Microsoft's ISV community has developed a number of add-ons (also known as customizations) and verticals, all generally referred to as Third Party applications, which complement or enhance the existing functionality of the application.
Integration of the web services
One can integrate data from virtually any database or desktop application into Great Plains. You can also implement a solution that incorporates your existing Web sites, Web services, and applications, even if they're built on non-Microsoft platforms. Using Microsoft eConnect, developers can build an integration package that leverages industry-standard technologies - including Microsoft BizTalk Server, SQL Server, Visual Basic, SOAP, COM, and XML - to permit all those applications and data sources to interact with Microsoft Dynamics GP. These services help this software to integrate the services provided by the internet. Find the right information quickly with advanced search capabilities. Reduce the time and effort needed to find information, so you can spend time on tasks that add more value. With Office SharePoint Server, you can define what is searchable and can initiate searches from Microsoft Dynamics GP, Office SharePoint Server, or Desktop Search that return not only structured Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 data, but also unstructured information, including Microsoft Office Word 2007 documents, Microsoft Office Excel 2007 spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 e-mail messages. Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 contains more than 75 pre-established Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services reports and more than 200 Office Excel 2007 reports with refreshable data. The reports give people the data they need to make confident decisions. And, whether they're working in Microsoft Dynamics GP or another application, employees can store, launch, and view reports through Office SharePoint Server Report Libraries.
