Vanity plays a large part in the use of popular anti-aging skin care products and treatments; which is not surprising because we are all living longer and fuller lives so why shouldn't we want to look younger? This is done using skin care products that encourage the growth of the protein collagen which happens to be the main source of the protein used in the connective tissue of skin; with around a quarter of our skin protein being collagen, the importance of this substance has not gone unnoticed. Collagen is a member of another family of substances that aid in reducing the signs of aging. called antioxidants, they help flush out toxins from the body and help reduce the signs of aging.
One of the best known anti-oxidants is vitamin C and despite continual research, no-one body involved can decide just exactly how much our body should consume on a daily basis. The main problem when using any skin care treatments which use vitamin C is that oxidization can occur as soon as they have contact with the air.
More stable skin care treatments are now available that are almost as efficient and actually cost less to manufacture. Although these products are good, they cannot actually compare with vitamin C but fortunately vitamin E and alpha-lipoic acid are also anti-oxidants so can be used to gain the same effect.
Vitamin E is found in the blood and is an antioxidant that is also used to increase the body's defenses against other health problems; it has been linked to resistance to a number of conditions including certain types of cancer. On the other hand, lipoic acid or alpha-lipoic acid is necessary for energy production which keeps us alive; it is also able to help reduce and restore the skin's aging process.
Other compounds called phytochemicals have proved to be beneficial in the formulation of anti-aging skin care products; they are removed from various plants. A secondary but more important use of phytochemicals is the effect they have on the prevention of some strains of cancer.
These are all on the increase around the world:
*Cancer of the prostate
*Cancer that attacks the breast
*Cancer of the colon
Surprisingly, the group of vitamins; B5, B6, and B12 have also shown that they can be used to help reduce the effects of aging. This is a vast area that has the potential for many new anti-aging skin care products and services in the future but research needs to continue. Whilst a great deal has been learned about this subject, it is only the tip of the iceberg; however, research is moving forward rapidly and it is only a matter of time before a new generation of products becomes available.
Hopefully, these challenges will get resolved in due course and better and cheaper anti-aging skin care products will be produced. Scientific research into anti-aging products is still in the early stages but they should never be relied upon; fortunately there is a number of natural anti-aging regimes that can be carried out that do not rely on science. You know all these things but how many do you practice? Regular exercise, restful sleep, drinking plenty of water, eating a healthy diet and keeping your stress levels low are all necessary.
