Are you tired of the same old beauty tips and advice about hair care? So are most women. The hundreds of hair care products on shelves seem to meld into one after awhile, and what once was the fun chore of reading ingredients and instructions on shampoos and conditioners has now turned into something like hard work. Is there any way out of the black hole that is hair care products? As it turns out, there may be a shining light at the end of the aisle…

Chances are that you have heard of all the wonderful things yoga can do for you (gain flexibility, increase circulation, clear your mind, help you focus) but did you realise that yogic philosophy had an answer for your hair care troubles?

Ayurvedic techniques can help you get in touch with the needs of your hair and scalp by using purely natural ingredients that are more gentle and nourishing that the mass marketed shampoos, conditioners and oils you find on pharmacy shelves.

If you are at the end of your tether when it comes to the usual hair care products, why not give these age old solutions a try? All you need is a little time, patience and maybe a pestle and mortar!

The most common problem to tackle is dandruff. The itching, flaking skin on your scalp is caused by lack of moisture in the skin, however serious conditions could be caused by diabetes and so it should be checked out by a doctor.

There are three basic steps to the Ayurvedic method of treatment, and each one takes some time. First, you will need to mix henna leaves together with sesame oil and leave the mixture in direct sunlight for seven days before bringing it inside and applying it to your scalp.

Leave on for two hours and then wash out with specified shampoo. To make the shampoo mix one part Bengal gram, one part green gram and half a part fenugreek seeds, pounded slightly. This shampoo will cleanse the hair and scalp while leaving the natural oils behind; your dandruff is sure to be alleviated with this remedy!

There are two after care products you can make once you have applied the primary salve and washed it out with the powder mixture. The first takes Black Myrobalan, Belearic and Goose Berry and pounds them together to produce what is called triphala. Make the powder with equal quantities of each, then hydrate with water and apply to the scalp for one hour before washing out with lukewarm water.

Finally, a fruity option! Bael fruit is burned, the pulp extracted and made into paste with water. This product is applied to the scalp for one hour before rinsing with warm water.

If you cannot find these ingredients in your normal shop, do not despair! Check out a specialty Asian supermarket or look online. It is worth the hassle, and why not treat yourself? If you are having trouble finding the products you want in stores, then maybe it is high time you tried something really different!

Who knows, this could change the way you look at hair care forever. You have to hand it to the yogis…not only do they know the secrets of inner peace, keeping fit and thin, opening the mind and retaining composure, they have some fun and indulgent ideas when it comes to beauty secrets as well.
