There are many fine bed and breakfast places in all parts of Britain with accommodation at prices to suit every pocket and all requirements. These offer great value for money, often much better than any other form of accommodation and many of them will offer a good discount for longer bookings.
Staying at a Bed and Breakfast removes the hassle of having to worry about having to go shopping to provide and cook meals for the start of each days breakfast which is, by definition, part of the package. Additional evening meals are often available, given advance notice, in many of these properties for a reasonable additional sum and you can choose whether to eat in or go out for a meal as and when you feel like it.
For a weeks stay in a Bed and Breakfast, especially if there are just two of you, you can very often get a very good rate and a higher standard of accommodation for a lower overall price than the self catering alternative with a lot less worry about cooking, cleaning and general hassle, leaving you free to plan your holiday time and enjoy you holiday time to the full. Although Bed and Breakfast is traditionally seen as being a room in the owner’s house, this can be misleading now. There are many types of property that offer “a bed and a breakfast” from Guest house to hotels and even, in one case we know of, a narrow boat.
We recently stayed at a bed and breakfast in a small village in Suffolk, just south of Southwold, famous for the Adnams Brewery, where the accommodation was in a small barn conversion that offered an entrance lobby (which was handy for the dog to stay in), a beautifully equipped and tastefully decorated bathroom and a large bedroom/living area, all furnished to a very high quality and completely self contained, with a wide range of facilities like TV, hairdryer, tea & coffee facilities, wine glass and a lot of little thoughtful extras. Although not officially graded, as more and more properties now seem to be after the change of rules and additional expense involved in grading, I would have put this easily in the four star category. A full and well cooked English breakfast, using home produce and eggs from their chickens was served at the owners house, in the conservatory, and was enough to set us up for the entire day. The entire week’s accommodation cost us less than £400. A lot less than we would have spent on self catering for a week in the same area at an equivalent standard of accommodation. I would strongly recommend that anyone think to stay in Britain, has a good look at the cost of bed and breakfast rather than booking self catering accommodation, it can often prove a lot more economical than you may at first think and a lot less work.
