Aurora University was founded in Mendota, Illinois in the year 1893 as Mendota seminary. In the beginning it was an institution for training lay workers and ministers in Advent Christian Church. Within a short span of time its name was changed to Mendota College that provides a full collegiate curriculum with a liberal base in arts. Aurora University is an independent, private and comprehensive institution. It strength exceeds over 4,000 students. There are 1,000 undergraduates and 1,000 graduates in this institution and the students attend in sites at off-campus counts to 1,600.
Most of the students in Aurora University are represented from 20 states and over a dozen of foreign countries. The main sites of Aurora University are Wisconsin, Lake Geneva, and Downtown Chicago site. The college had developed its facilities by 1911 and sought in a new location closer to Chicago.

Aurora College has been developed substantially and taken over many new challenges. It has been achieved regional accreditation in the year 1938. Aurora College became independent under the charge of the Advent Christian Church in the year 1971. Aurora College was converted into Aurora University in the year 1985 and had increased its size and needs. Currently the university is composed of three colleges: College of education, College of Arts, Sciences and Business, and George Williams College for Health and Human Services. The university prizes virtues of scholarship and character. The university reflects its commitment on the values of citizenship, excellence, integrity and continuous learning.
