I do consider pizza to be a finger food because you can eat it with your hands, but many good pizzas will require 2 hands to eat and a plate to catch the grease. The biggest problem is that while you are eating you are not able to hold your cards and if you get grease on your hands it winds up on the cards.

When trying to plan your poker game menu keep it in mind that some things like chili will require constantly getting up to serve more to your guests and will take away from the poker game. Remember the wrong playing poker foods will ruin a poker game.

The best foods are served cold or can be cooked if you are willing to put in the time before the game starts. I will often make some fajitas before the game and then leave them on a tray cut up into small bite size pieces. This allows players to put several pieces on a plate and eat them with one hand while continuing to play. They will have to get up to refill their plate from time to time, but it they should have plenty of time if they are kept near the poker table.

Subs or Heroes are also good for quick eating, but I have found that wraps are even better. If wrapped right the food will stay inside and not fall all over the poker table. Foods that will spill all over the place can cause problems. If something gets on their clothes they will be running to the bathroom and are sure to hold up the game for at least 5 minutes.

Another important thing to consider is the beverages you are going to serve at your poker game. Everyone likes to have a beer or two while playing poker, so make sure to have some beer on hand, but you may not want to invite the heavy drinkers if you want to play some good poker. If some of the players get too drunk from beer or hard liquor they will play badly and ruin the game for others and will be taking many trips to the toilet, making the game stop each time.

Another reason for not wanting your friends to get too drunk is because if the lose all their money while drunk the next day they may start to build up resentments for taking his money while he was drunk even though he is the one who came to play poker and got wasted. I have seen many friendships end for just this very reason.

I recommend getting no more then 1 case of beer for 5 friends and put the hard stuff away. If one of your friends announces he is getting married or his wife is pregnant or something else that deserves a toast then you can bust out the good stuff and do a rounds of shots.

Now obviously if the main purpose of your regular poker game is to just hang out and the poker is just the excuse for getting out of the house then feel free to ignore these suggestions, but if you are serious about your poker playing I recommend you put some thought into your foods.
