The following article lists some simple, informative tips that will help you have a better experience with portrait artists.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and portrait artist experts is time. If you'll invest a little more time in reading, you'll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to portrait artists.

Types of surfaces used

There is a wide range of surfaces which are in use these days. Some of the common ones include canvas, wood and even metal. However here we discuss some other surfaces which can be used and which will change the look of your portraits from photo which you are planning on making!

Linen and cotton

These materials represent an interesting surface to paint on. Linen has a reputation for producing durable and long lasting oil paintings. You can select from pre-stretched varieties to even rolled ones. While most linen varieties come primed for oil as well as acrylic painting you could also go for an unprimed one. Cotton on the other hand is great if you are an amateur painter. You could select a dense grade cotton material to use as your surface for creating your portrait from photo.

Canvas pads

These are great for those artists who cannot afford expensive materials like linen or cotton. Canvas pads are again great for artists who are just learning the techniques of painting. So whether you are creating portrait from photos or just painting an object in the room, these canvas pads need to be heavy enough to support the heavy oil paint.

Wood

One of the oldest preferred materials used was wood. It is especially great for creating a stunning portrait from photo. Most artists used to use poplar or oak varieties of wood. This wood was covered with a generic paste prepared from animal skin and chalk.

I hope that reading the above information was both enjoyable and educational for you. Your learning process should be ongoing--the more you understand about any subject, the more you will be able to share with others.
