Things have come a long way over the years with regards to outdoor lighting and now more than ever there are far more choices available. One thing that you will want to bear in mind when you are installing your outdoor lighting is that it will first require a well thought out plan, because you will want everything to look and function perfectly when all the work is done and you throw the switch.

One option that you may want to consider is having two separate lighting schemes that overlap one another if you are going to be using your yard for outdoor recreation such as if you are having a pool installed.

This means that you will have one set of lower wattage lights that light your porch, walkways and landscaping and another set of more powerful lights that can light up the whole area if you choose.

There is a lot of literature out there that covers the subject well and it is highly suggested that you get some and read it, because new lighting systems and techniques can be rather complex.

One great idea to consider if you have any doubts about any of your choices in your outdoor lighting when you are doing your landscaping or having cement flatwork done is to have some conduit ran underground that passes under walkways and driveways when the work is being done.

That way, further down the line if you choose to have lighting installed, its a simple matter of pulling the wires through the conduit that is in place, meaning that you won't have to tunnel under any cement work or tear up any landscaping.

Remember, that it is important to consider that your lighting is to be used at night and that means that it is a good idea to look at other lighting concepts that you might have seen at night also, to gain a full perspective of just how they look and function.
