German renewable energy firm RWE Innogy and wind turbine maker REpower Systems Group have signed a memorandum of understanding, which provides for the negotiation of framework agreements with a volume of up to 1,900MW.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) involves some 250 offshore wind turbines of 5MW to 6MW capacity and additionally around 200 onshore wind turbines of 2MW capacity.
The two firms intend to conclude the negotiations on the framework agreements within the next three months, or by the end of 2008 at the latest. The wind turbines will then be manufactured and delivered by REpower within a timeframe of four to six years, beginning on January 1, 2010. Kevin McCullough, COO of RWE Innogy, said: "Wind power plays a decisive role on our path towards positioning RWE Innogy as the driving force behind tomorrow's technology in Germany and Europe. I am certain that in REpower we have found a strong partner to push forward our goals in this area."
