Behold the proverbial box, one of the world’s most popular shapes. And it was made more celebrated by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Yes, cubism rocks. That is why Nissan Motor Corp.’s Cube is cool.
According to geometers, the cube is known for delivering the largest volume thanks to its great cuboid shape that offers the most efficient space of all boxes. And that's exactly the reason why the Cube arrives in the automotive scenario. The Cube bearing a price sticker of less than $14,000 is really vast on the inside.
The Cube, actually made up of two boxes, intends to lure aficionados who fancy spacious interior. One box shelters the engine, the other houses the occupants. Aptly, it is called the Cube, and from first glance, it looks like a child’s first attempts at auto design. Moreover, aficionados who go for looks would easily dismiss the car. In fact, some watchers in the industry say the Cube has the 'face that only a mother would love'.
After years of indecision, the Japanese automaker is sure to offer the Cube to the American market. The vehicle is expected to arrive in dealerships early next year after Nissan launches the redesigned Cube in Japan.
The Cube headed for the United States will be different in some of the surface detailing from the current Japanese model. The Cube will be equipped with cutting-edge Nissan parts such as Versa's 1.8-liter engine. The vehicle will be smaller than just about any other wagon on the market - still keenly minimalistic, self-consciously artsy, and a bit of clumsy-cool auto design.
Why would aficionados drive the Cube? The car is set to catch American market's appetite for mega-space, value and CAFÉ standard friendliness.
Amid the rising gasoline prices, watchers predict automakers will shrink American cars. The Cube, for instance, gives aficionados a preview. The unique styling of the Cube is irresistible in America because boxy appearance is still charming in the territory unlike in Japan and Europe.
As regards performance, the Cube is powered by a 90-hp inline four driving the front wheels; it gets approximately 40 miles to the gallon on the highway. The idiosyncratic vehicle features a very clever gadget called e-4WD: A small electric motor situated in the back can be engaged to drive the rear wheels, helping to pull the car out of snow or a slick rut, according to the Seattle Times.
The wisdom of the Cube is the acumen of all cubes: Effectiveness is beauty. Experts say that to get ahead in the competition, one has to think out of the box. Well, Nissan thought of a box whilst doing that.
