This is the nation’s sixteenth appearance in the event and their fourth as hosts. So far; Ghana has managed to take home four titles but this time they ended up settling for a consolation third spot; their best performance since the 1992 Nations Cup where the team finished as runners up. It has been over 25 years since they last won the cup back in 1982.

This was an exciting six goal match and just ten minutes into the game Sulley Muntari struck a 25 yard free kick that gave Ghana the lead. Their other three goals were all scored during the second half; Owusu-Abeyie scored at minute 73, Agogo at the 80th minute and finally Dramani sealed the match with Ghana’s last goal in minute 85.

Many thought there was very little interest in the competition with the exception of the local crowd in Kumasi where a large number got together to support their favorite club. Although Ghana was not in the final match, the spectators were pleased to see Ghana put on the show they did and were proud to have backed them up.

Some of the games highlights include; Sanogo’s goal that made history as it was the 94th goal of the tournament making this year’s event the highest scoring tournament in the history of the Africa Nations Cup. For many viewers the fact alone of seeing six goals scored in a football match is thrilling enough.

Current champions Egypt is once again in the final match as the most dominant team within the confederation and will compete for the cup this Sunday against Cameroon. A large number of fans believe Egypt will win the tournament for the second consecutive year.

The Africa Nations Cup is held every two years and in 2010 the event is programmed to take place in Angola for the first time in the history of the event. As an important fact Angola is a team that has never won the tournament either.
