It is not at all necessary to be worried about cradle cap as it is simply a skin condition and in no way a harmful disease. Parents and relatives show their concern for the disease mainly because they are frightened by the look of it and secondly, they love the child so much so that they do not like to see any unwanted on spot on its body. But specialists are always in favour of taking the disease lightly.

Very often it is see that cradle cap vanishes automatically without any treatment even. Sometimes it takes only a few months for the skin condition to vanish while sometimes it may take as long as two years for the skin condition to be cured fully. In between, what is necessary for parents or caretakers is to manage the disease properly. Some very easy methods are enough to keep it well under control.

In some cases, dermatologists suggest the use of oils for keeping cradle cap under control. Any kind of oil, vegetable or chemical, can be used liberally on the affected area and then left for quite a few hours. When the oil is soaked well by the scales, they can be removed by using something very soft. In this case, parents should be extra careful as, using something hard or brushing off the oily scales carelessly, can worsen the condition and cause harm to the baby.

There are lots of other ways of treating cradle cap. Using shampoo is one of the most frequently applied methods. Parents can use mild shampoo, those that are especially manufactured for babies, on the affected area and wash it off gently. Apart from shampoo and oil, the other ways that are effective in curing cradle cap include the use of homely remedies like tea tree oil, aloe and paste made of other homely herbs.
