Male pattern baldness is probably one of the greatest problems faced by men who are already in the advanced aging process. According to some studies, age is not a significant factor that causes male pattern baldness because there have been several cases that involved younger individuals. However, this condition is very evident among men aged sixty and up.

It is said that the amount of androgen in the body has a lot to do with male pattern baldness. This hormone is in charge of the normal development of men. Researchers agree that hormones are not only the main cause of the condition. There are certain conditions that lead to male pattern baldness like metabolic syndrome, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, prostate cancer, and heart diseases. Androgen directly affects the lower levels of fertility and hair loss among men.

DHT or dihydrotestosterone is considered an androgen and at the same time a potent testosterone form. When the body converts testosterone, DHT is created. An enzyme helps in the conversion of testosterone and that is called 5-alpha reductase. Androgen, testosterone, and the enzyme are directly related to each other and together they cause hair loss. By using products called DHT inhibitors, hair loss or male pattern baldness can be prevented. These products address the root cause of male pattern baldness but you should be warned that the effects of these products are not the same all throughout. It may work for some individuals but will not be as effective for others.

Male pattern baldness is also believed to be genetic in nature. You can easily tell if you have male pattern baldness if you experience crown baldness, bald patches, and worst, overall baldness. There are a lot of treatments and hair loss products available in the market today. However, by determining the real cause of male pattern baldness, your doctor can prescribe the proper treatment suited to your condition.

If both sides of the family have histories of male pattern baldness, there is a greater chance for male members to have the condition. There is no known cure for male pattern baldness so if you’re not comfortable seeing your hair disappear, you can use pills, topical treatments, and even undergo surgery to re-grow your hair.

In a research study conducted in Japan, it showed that an inactive lifestyle and a diet that is high in fats and calories can also cause male pattern baldness. Men should therefore be more active. Live a healthy and active lifestyle so that you can prevent hair loss while you’re still young. Don’t wait until such time when you start experiencing hair loss. Try to avoid eating calorie-rich and fatty foods. Choose the types of food you eat. Balanced diets are still the best and if you don’t know the right food choices, you can consult a dietician.

Genetics, hormones, and lifestyle seem to be the causes of male pattern baldness. Well, whatever the cause is, you must be able to cope with the situation. Male pattern baldness should be accepted by the individual because its there to stay. Even if you try using hair loss products, time will come when the effects of male pattern baldness will become visible to other people. So the best way is to live with your condition and never lose your self confidence. If you feel good about yourself despite your baldness, other people will feel the same way.
