Adirondack Is Back - The Popular New (Old) Trend In Outdoor Furniture!

It's not surprising that an all-American classic such as the Adirondack Chair has made a great come back in just the last few years. This fad is spreading fast because people around the country are electing to spend a lot more time relaxing and kicking back in their faithfully devised outdoor living space. I myself remember as a 6 year old, sliding completely back into one of these wonderful old chairs, my feet swinging over the edge, while my grandpa and I peeled apples and mused about the hot apple pie topped with melting vanilla ice cream that we just knew grandma was going to have for us after supper. I balanced a cool lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was warm and pleasant. When Grandpa told stories it seemed like time flew by. It is truly no mystery why we love to relax outdoors, whether that's sitting on the porch watching the neighborhood, out on the patio, on the deck, or in your garden area. There just might not be a better way to kick back than to slide back into a deep seated, high backed, wonderful Adirondack and just leave your cares behind.

So just where exactly did this part of Americana come from? The Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This style was commonplace at the many mountain hide aways and vacation resorts that were so trendy in those days. By the time the 40's came around you could see Adirondack furniture just about everywhere. The furniture design moved to the south and was going west quickly. As the Adirondack furniture design started to get more popular, and found its way around the country, regional influences started showing up. The design was given to various outdoor furniture styles including; rocking chairs, porch swings, gliders, benches, and because of our French Canadian neighbors, a piece referred to as the "tete a tete" which literally means; "head to head". This fanciful little design incorporates two chairs and a table in between them built as one piece. What a perfect way to spend a warm Summer day with somebody who loves you!

You'll be pleased and amazed to find a large variety of Adirondack style furniture on the market currently. The original style has not only withstood the test of time, but the Adirondack craze has exploded with a delightful collection of finishes, styles, material, and colors. Classic Adirondack style furniture is constructed from wood that's known to resist bugs and deterioration like cypress, oak, white or red cedar, or cherry. The wood selected varies by location as do individual furniture designs. A popular new addition to traditional Adirondack style is outdoor furniture built using polymer "lumber" that is made out of plastic recycled packaging, milk cartons, and other things. This isn't only an environmentally sound way to get furniture, but you have some advantages with ease of care, durableness, longevity, and colors aren't going to fade because the pigments are mixed all the way through the plastic with UV inhibitors for added protection.
