India has been the leader in offshore low end IT and BPO work, specifically customer service outsourcing. Nevertheless, the country is bracing itself to take on complicated tasks that are higher in value. Now India is getting both low and high-end work in BPO and IT.

India has a vast and growing pool of expert resources that can work remotely and can meet the deficits of skilled professionals across the globe. Around 2.5 million graduates pass every year in India. The recruitment and grading up for any organization is easier in comparison to other locations.

As per a research, the KPO (knowledge process outsourcing) sector is rising more rapidly than low-end services sector. While the low-end outsourcing services sector is approximated to grow at a slow rate, KPO services market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 46% to reach US $ 17 billion by 2010 from US $ 1.2 billion of 2003.

India produces 300,000 engineers annually against 65,000 of US. So a large pool of skilled researchers at low cost is readily accessible to companies. India also houses world famous educational institutions like IIT, IISc and NITs with a wide network of about 3000 research labs and 400 state-run labs. MNCs that are outsourcing R&D to India can use this intellectual capital to their profit. Indian government is supporting R&D activities by providing various incentives to companies that are conducting research in India. With the help of these factors, India will secure a key position in the global R&D panorama.
