A new study funded by the FDA and the National Institute of Mental Health has found what they call a 'worrisome' connection between so-called ADHD drugs like Ritalin and Adderall and the deaths of 10,000 children. But they say the deaths of those 10,000 kids shouldn’t be a concern to the public and are worth the benefits for the other roughly 2.5 million kids that take the drugs.
Bah, humbug.
What did kids like the millions of those who are currently diagnosed with ADHD do before these wonderful drugs. We have all known many, many kids who doctors would probably put on those drugs given half the chance - and they're grown up now and turned out just fine. How did we possibly manage that?
Parents coped with whatever problems their kids had, and tried to get down to the bottom of what was going on - they didn't just drug them.
Yeah, okay, there are some kids that really are a lot to cope with - like Gabriel Meyers, the 7-year-old who recently hung himself. He is suspected of having been sexually abused himself, you can be sure he had a very nasty life before he became the property of social services – kids don’t wind up being taken from their families if there’s nothing wrong – and he was a mess. He was displaying all kinds of aberrant sexual behavior and, they say, well on his way to being a sexual predator well before age 7.
They put him on one drug after another to resolve his problems and nothing worked – that’s why it went from one drug to two to three and, eventually, to 7. One for each of his tender, tortured years.
Obviously, none of them worked - and they messed him up so badly he killed himself. You'd think that would be a clue for the rest of us.
But, far from the Gabriel Meyers scenario, there are millions of kids who aren't anything like that - they're just having trouble paying attention in school in one way or another - and there could be hundreds of reasons for that which have absolutely nothing to do with needing a drug – after all, no one is born suffering with a Ritalin or Adderall deficiency - and for which there are plenty of alternative, non-drug treatments. And they work.
Unfortunately, not many of our doctors are schooled in those alternatives – and they’re so inundated with big pharma promotion and marketing schemes they’re completely convinced that putting kids on these drugs is fine.
Tell that to the parents of the 10,000 who died.
In the process of endangering their lives by exposing them to dangerous and addictive drugs, we’re also teaching our kids that drugs are the answer to life's problems.
It's no surprise that prescription drug addiction is one of the biggest problems in America today - and no surprise that just about every drug treatment center is now treating people who are taking prescription drugs and can't stop.
Has big pharma got their hooks into us or what!? We're even turning our kids into drug addicts. How far do we have to go before we realize we’re going in the wrong direction?
