Pursuing a MBA degree in any of the reputed B-Schools in India is one of the toughest tasks in the educational sector today. Or so say the pundits! With the IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) being named as the premier management schools in the world today, it is but an acknowledged fact that getting into one of these would be an uphill task even for the best of talents. Be it an MBA in Ahmedabad or an MBA from any of the other leading institutes in the country like UnitedWorld, one can hardly make it through without prior guidance and knowledge about the B-schools’ screening procedure. A huge number of coaching institutions have opened shop in lieu of this to help wannabe managers get into the best of MBA Colleges in India – considered the cream of the B-School sector globally.

The examination for getting into the B-Schools in India is called CAT (Common Admission Test). Apart from the preliminary written examination format (which is to go online from year 2009), there is a Group Discussion and thereafter a Personal Interview (PI) to flush out the best from the rest. The PI is the hardest nut to crack among all the others and is the final key to getting an entry into pursuing a successful career in management with a MBA in India. However, the final step is the hardest, with the interviewing team being made up of the best professors and the leading professionals from the industry. But as always, there are a few easy ways to cracking the B-school fortress, and here are some tips on the questions that do the rounds each year in the PI segment.

• Your Educational Qualifications Till Date – While this question crops up most of the time, it isn’t always in the same pattern. You may be asked what educational courses you have pursued and why you did it. Or how you managed to pay for the education and if given a chance would you follow the same educational path that you have pursued till now!
• Professional Experience – This is for those who are already in a job, (as most MBA students are working by the time they arrive) and is important to answer well. One may be asked anything – from the kind of job responsibilities held to career aspirations and relationship with colleagues and the boss.
• Activities Off the Beaten Track – This question may deal with what you do in your leisure time to whether you have managed an excursion or an event that had nothing to do with your profession. Remember, hobbies and extra-curricular activities matter a lot as they reflect the personality and character of an individual.
• Why an MBA – This is probably the most common query from the interviewing team, and giving an answer like ‘I am a born leader’ would never land you an entry into any of the leading B-Schools, leave alone pursuing an MBA in Mumbai or an MBA in Ahmedabad. The answer should emphasize on your specific skills of management as well as the need for it as a career option in the future.
• Character and Values – Strengths, weaknesses, how you come across to your friends, your idols, personal experiences and dilemmas etc are all questions that wrap up an interview. Answering them intelligently without overtly leaning on any one side is the best way to tackle these questions.

In a nutshell, getting into one of the many MBA colleges in India may be hard, but with a little focus and streamlined study, it is easily achievable!
