There is a certain belief that collateral is first and foremost a marketing tool that is why it needs to be able to sell. Hence, many marketers and business owners use their marketing campaigns such as printing posters to market and sell rather than to communicate and persuade.
You heard right. Custom posters for example need to be able to communicate rather than market your products and services. If it does more marketing and selling than actually communicating to your target audience, it fails miserably to connect with your clients. It fails to build a relationship that is the essence of marketing in the first place.
So what do you do? Stop marketing right now and instead start communicating with these strategies when printing posters:
Your marketing copy is an ad, not a thesis.
So stop treating it like a dissertation. Stop putting too many information about you that your target readers get overwhelmed in the process of reading your copy. Your audience can only scan your content in a few seconds. In fact, it only takes a glance from them to know whether your copy is worth reading or not. So stop giving them too many words and start building your headlines about what you can actually give them. Talk of the benefits right away and you will definitely start having a conversation with them about your business.
Your marketing collateral is not a formal presentation or a lecture.
An ad such as your custom posters should always come off as a friendly handshake instead of a boring lecture. Even if you provide the facts, you will only be able to get your readers’ attention if you can give them something interesting and compelling. Your content should be an incentive for them to purchase your product. In addition, the only way to do that is to give them the benefits. When you do, not only do you grab their attention, but also more importantly, you give them the encouragement to part with their money and take your offer.
Your marketing collateral needs to be simple.
So stop overdoing it. You only need one message and offer for your audience when printing posters. Spending more time in listening and researching great ideas to provide your audience with an excellent offer is more an advantage to you rather than keeping them occupied with too much information that they have a hard time understanding what you need from them. Too many marketing collaterals, too much information can only make you look desperate. Do not go overboard and start providing your audience with simple and concise offer that they can easily remember.
Lastly, stop underestimating your audience by providing them with so many tricks. You do not need to put too many icing on the cake only to find out that the cake itself is full of air. Give them relevant and valuable information and your audience will surely get what you are talking about – enough to give you the positive response you need to succeed.
