Tucked into the southeastern corner of Queensland and sandwiched between two stretches of impossibly perfect, world renowned beaches, Brisbane is the perfect place to use as a base camp for the ultimate beach vacation. Nowhere else in the world can you find the cosmopolitan features of a big city mixed with the unbelievably scenic coastline that exemplify the Brisbane experience. Top all of that off with the notoriously welcoming locals, and you've truly got the makings of a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Thanks to its nearly subtropical climate, Brisbane is a great place to come to year round for its beaches. To the north lies the Sunshine Coast; to the south stretches the inimitable Gold Coast. Or you can simply stay within the limits of Brisbane, enjoying the gentle waves and sandy beaches of Moreton Bay. For its scenic layout alone, it is well worth it to spend an afternoon on the bay, approxximately 20 minutes from downtown Brisbane.

Dotted with many small islands, Moreton Bay has plenty to offer visitors to Brisbane. By doing just a little bit of research, tourists can find many opportunities among these islands for snorkeling and scuba diving. Renting a small boat and cruising around the bay is a wonderful way to discover out of the way beaches nestled into the sides of impossibly small islands.

In order to truly experience what all the fuss is about when it comes to Queensland's beaches, though, one must venture beyond the confines of Brisbane proper. As the nearest Sunshine Coast beach to Brisbane, Caloundra Beach is an excellent and convenient place to spend a day while touring in the region. Immensely popular with families, Caloundra also offers many different options as far as beach attractions go, so it is sure to please everyone in your traveling party. From soaking in the sun to surfing in the tide, Caloundra is a great place to get a feel for the beaches near Brisbane.

To take in a swankier locale, try heading up to Noosa's beach. Bordered by a slew of intriguing shops and boutiques, Noosa is a hot spot for people who don't mind spending a little money. There's much more to this beach than shopping though; the calm waters of the Noosa River are perfect for young children to frolic in. If you are traveling with small kids, Noosa Beach would be a lovely choice.

Heading south from Brisbane, you can see what the famed Gold Coast is all about. People around the world extol the virtues of this stretch of coastline, and it's easy to see why. One of the closest hot spots to Brisbane is Southport. Whether you enjoy water sports like boating and jet skis, or have children along for the ride and need a place for them to let off some steam, Southport has the amenities to please. The icing on the cake in Southport is its impossibly scenic, seemingly endless sandy beaches.

Whether you head north, south or stay right where you are, Brisbane is a wonderfully central location for enjoying some of the best beaches in the world. No matter where your interests lie, if you and your family love the beach then Brisbane is a premier place to spend a long holiday. A vacation to this part of Queensland is one that will never be forgotten.
