Acne is a common problem for both adults and teens and the commonest perception of the condition is that it breaks out on the face. However, if you have suffered from acne you know only too well that it can break out in other areas of the body too such as the chest and the back.

Although chest and back acne is not as apparent to outside observers it can nevertheless be very annoying for those who suffer from it. Regrettably, chest and back acne is generally harder to treat than the acne that you have on your face and the traditional treatments and cleansers which you purchase for your face are normally less effective when it comes to dealing with acne on your back. As if this were not bad enough, because your chest and back are normally covered by clothing, you will experience more irritation as your clothes rub against your acne.

Just as with facial acne you will have to have a daily treatment routine for acne on your back and the majority of common regimens will include a cleanser followed with a moisturizer. Usually, it is harder to put medication on your back acne because of where its location and so you may need help from a family member or to use a applicator.

You will have to be careful about the sort of clothes you wear. Tight-fitting shirts or rough material will rub against your skin and irritate your pimples leading to increasing oil production and therefore more breakouts. You also need to pay attention to the type of washing powder and fabric softener you use. Sometimes these will irritate your back acne and so you may need to try different brands or even a dye and fragrance free variety.

Watch what you carry anything on you back. For young people in school, as well as those individuals who go backpacking and hiking, a backpack can make back acne very noticeably worse. If you are experiencing an increase in the number of acne breakouts you may have to stop carrying a backpack for a time. If this causes a problem then a shoulder bag can help until your spots clear up.

Your dermatologist or doctor can be a great help with the diagnosis and treatment of back acne and will be able to start by determining how bad your acne is and assessing what type of skin you have. Whether your skin is, for example, oily or dry or what is referred to as a combination skin plays an important part deciding upon the best course of treatment. Your dermatologist or doctor will also want to have a history of your acne condition, including things like how long you have suffered from acne and how frequently breakouts happen. With this information he will be able to work out the best course of treatment and medication to deal with your particular case of acne.
