The days are now very short and the nights are quite long which means that winter is here and one thing that you are more than likely to experience is your skin feeling dry, tight, flaky and also very rough.

Dry skin is not just for the face but it can affect other areas of the body such as the hands, feet, elbows and also the legs. One of the problems that winter presents is that the level of humidity is very low and this ultimately means that there is a lot les moisture in the air as cold air is quite dense meaning that the skin is going to suffer.

If you compare cold weather to that of warm weather, the heat here actually helps to promote the various glands within the skin so that they are producing natural oils that help to keep the skin soft and supple. Sadly the winter simply increase the evaporation of any essential oils that the skin needs and this is why it does feel very dry.

There are many ways that you can help to treat your dry skin and it does not really matter where on your body it is. But the face seems to bear the brunt of the damage due to its exposure and the skin on the face is also very thin compared to other parts of the body.

It is important therefore that you are using the right products during the winter that are going to work to help retain much needed moisture within the skin. The best moisturisers for your face will be natural based and will rely up essential oils that have been extracted from various plants and fruits.

Applying a daily moisturiser to your skin is something that you have to do and in the evening you need to be protecting your skin with an intensive night cream. A good cream will perform a number of functions such as hydrating the skin, protecting the skin from the UV rays of the sun, creating a barrier so that now moisture is allowed to escape and they will also contain a range of antioxidants that will also help to fight off the signs of ageing.

A good moisturiser will see that the various symptoms that are associated with dry skin are removed which are that of roughness, flaking and even itching of the skin. The natural ingredients that are contained within the products will also help to promote the production of collagen meaning that the skin is going to stay looking much younger.

As mentioned dryness can appear anywhere on the body, and if you are experiencing dry skin on your body then you need to be applying an intensive all over body lotion to your skin. Again this will need to be natural based and the best time to apply this to your skin is after you have had a bath or shower and it is actually applied when the skin is still damp so that they help to trap and seal any moisture content within the skin.
