Vitamin C, cancer and chemotherapy treatment is either a good or bad combination, depending on the research that's making news.

In chemotherapy treatment the entire body is affected in one way or another. Unfortunately a side effect of this treatment is hair loss. Chemotherapy is carried out by administering drugs that are designed to kill cancerous cells. These drugs are injected right into the vein or muscle tissue. The drugs flow through the blood stream. Because of this systematic treatment the drugs cannot be taken orally.

Chemotherapy drugs are used to halt the division and reproduction of cancer cells, but can also damage some of the more sensitive normal cells, such as bone marrow, linings in the mouth and digestive system, and hair follicles (which accounts for the classic hair loss). The cancer cells cannot survive after attack by chemotherapy drugs, but the affected healthy cells can. Most of the cellular damage recovers once the chemotherapy regimen is complete.

Chemotherapy treatment gives some side effects, whether it is used as intravenous treatment or oral. Capecitabine is the pill used to treat colorectal cancer, gives some fewer side effects. It is also known by the brand name Xeloda that causes tumor to shrink but causes many side effects also. Capecitabine converts into 5-FU after absorbing that help to minimize the tumors. Patients in IV regimen, receives dose of 5-fluorouracil in combination with leukovorin as a daily dose for five days in four week cycle.

Chemotherapy is the treatment that uses drugs to kill or stop the growth of cancer cells. It also reduces the pain and other problems caused due to lung cancer. Chemotherapy drugs are given via injecting in vein through catheter and thin tube or as pill and thus chemo drugs reach in all parts of the body. Chemotherapy treatment depends on the type of cancer, stage of cancer and current health of the patient. Sometimes additional adjuvant chemotherapy is required along with the surgery.

A treatment plan and a treatment schedule (a regimen) are recommended by the doctor for the administering of drugs included in the chemotherapy treatment. Some of these drugs are intended to fight the cancer, and some are intended to help support the cancer-fighting drugs. Doctors agree that keeping to the recommended schedule provides the best opportunity for the chemotherapy treatment to be successful.

The cost of chemotherapy mainly estimated on the basis of the tests, procedures and the services required for the treatment. Even though it is true that chemotherapy treatment is very expensive, but it is the only effective treatment for cancer. Drugs like antibiotics, cholesterol or blood pressure tablets and chemotherapy drugs can also be made available on prescription but again the cost of prescription depends on your pension or Health care card.

Chemotherapy causes many side effects in patients, and one of the most well known side effects of chemotherapy is hair loss. Chemotherapy drugs can damage the hair by breaking it close to the patient's scalp. Hair loss usually starts within a few weeks after the chemotherapy treatment. The amount of hair loss depends on the type, combination, and dosage of chemotherapy drugs. Hair normally grows back after the completion of chemotherapy treatment.
