If you have trouble motivating yourself to lose weight, and you’re starting to despair and feel like it might never happen, then there is an answer. Although society stigmatises, mocks and mis-portrays them, weight loss clubs are a very good support mechanism to help you through these problems.

The value of these clubs comes not only from the experience of the people who lead them, but mainly from the other people. They will be a mix of people like you, who haven’t yet succeeded in losing weight and share your problems, and people who the club has helped in the past, who have now lost weight and can act as an inspiration to others. Hearing stories from these people can really help – if someone at the club was once much fatter than you but is now much thinner, it makes you feel like you’ve got an easy job to do, not the impossible one that you’ve been seeing.

Weight loss clubs are invaluable for practical weight loss advice and discussion of new techniques, particularly the pitfalls of the newest fad diets. Beyond that, though, the chances are that many of the people at the club will become your friends, meaning you can call them up with your problems and you can help them with theirs – and that if things ever start going badly for you, they’ll be there to pick you up and help you carry on.

Please remember that you should be careful when you join a weight loss club that you don’t fall in with a bad one – the worst will often simply try to sell you a get-thin-quick scheme, and will be led all the time by the head of the club instead of being in a circle format with each member speaking in turn. Asking around is generally the best way to find a good club that won’t try to take advantage of you.
