Jamaica is an island paradise, located in the northern Caribbean, approximately 145 km south of Cuba and 160 km west of Haiti. Jamaica is a wonderfully diverse island paradise with coastal lowlands, a limestone plateau, the Blue Mountains, and a group of volcanic hills in the east. Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean, and the most populous English speaking island there. What strikes most first time visitors to Jamaica is its amazing natural beauty. It is said that Jamaica is as close to paradise as anything this side of God's heaven. Jamaica is the home of over 200 species of birds, with approximately 25 of these native to the island, being dominated by mountains, mostly covered with lush, green forests. Jamaica is also reputedly home to more than 3,000 species of flowering plants, some 720 of which are found nowhere else. The climate in Jamaica is tropical, with hot and humid weather, although higher inland regions have a more temperate climate. The average temperature in Jamaica is 82 ° F and remains consistent throughout the year.
