Even though Lap-Band surgery is a fairly non invasive surgery, there are still procedures that must be followed after the surgery, and people must still know what to expect. There will be things they must eat, and things they cannot do until they fully recover.

When surgery is initially over, patients can expect to feel mild to moderate pain. Typically, this will feel like sore abdominal muscles and the pain will go away over a few days time. In most cases, people can even return to work within three to five days after the surgery.

Patients might experience feelings of sadness after the surgery as well. It is not uncommon for people to mourn the loss of their old lives, and some people have actually even joined support groups so they can cope.

Changes in Diet

Dietary changes are the biggest changes that Lap-Band users will notice. For three months, caffeine cannot be ingested. Then, for the next five to six weeks, patients will have to follow a liquid diet that consists of protein shakes. After that, solid food can be shredded and eaten. It is important to make sure that a proper amount of protein is put into the diet.

After a few weeks, patients can start eating normally, although they will need to chew their food into small bits in order to digest it properly. It is best to avoid spicy food, as well as tough meat. At the same time, patients need to make sure that they take in between fifty and sixty grams of protein each day.

The recovery time for Lap-Band patients is quick, but that does not mean that there is not a recovery time at all. Lap-Band patients have to make sure that they follow the recovery procedures so they do not run into problems with their band.
