If you own a rustic cabin in the woods, chances are you've considered the idea of renting out the property for part of the year to vacationers. From avid fishermen to honeymooning couples, there are a wide variety of people who long to get away from it all and escape to a secluded chalet. If you're thinking about entering the cabin rental market, you need to prepare your home to accommodate the various types of vacationers that will be staying in your cottage.

One of the most common types of renter you'll encounter will be hunters and fishermen. Passionate about spending time outdoors, these vacationers tend to have very basic needs in terms of their accommodations. They want somewhere warm to rest their heads, a clean place to cook their meals, and fantastic fishing and hunting spots. As long as your cottage is well equipped and comes with a comprehensive guide to hunting and fishing in the area, your guests will be happy. Having a deck of cards and a pool table is also a good idea for days when inclement weather prevents outdoor adventures.

When you're catering to outdoorsy types, it's also important to have adequate storage space for rods, tackle, and other equipment. There may be muddy boots, soaking wet jackets, and other items that need to be hung to dry. Have a good mud room with plenty of hooks, cubbies, and hangers.

You might also want to have some extra equipment around just in case your guests forget something or need a backup. Fishing rods and tackle are not only handy to have on hand for experienced fishermen to use, but can also provide family guests with a new and exciting hobby. Children from the city might never have fished before, and what better opportunity to try out this great activity than when they're vacationing in the woods? When your guests discover how much fun they can have outdoors, they'll want to return to your cabin again and again.

Vacationing families are a strong source of revenue, so you'll want to prepare your home to accommodate a range of ages and interests. Be sure to have plenty of activities around such as board games and card decks that can provide entertainment for all ages and skill levels. In fact, games are a great way for busy families to reconnect with each other in the evenings or on rainy days.

Books are invaluable to have around your cabin. Few activities are more peaceful than sitting in a plush armchair near a window or fireplace and diving into a good adventure story, classic, or romance. Try to have books available for both kids and adults. Comics and coloring books are handy to have around as well, and may be something that the family has not thought to pack. Supplying these items make for happy families when the weather outside is gloomy.

If possible, leave a brochure listing all the hiking trails, swimming holes, and horseback riding stables in the area so your guests stay entertained and happy. It's also wise to print a list of shops and eateries within the vicinity, for afternoon excursions.

To appeal to parents or couples who are looking for a romantic getaway, you want your rental cabin to feel intimate and inviting. Make sure that the master bedroom has a spacious and comfortable bed with plush cushions, crisp linens, and a warm duvet. Dimmer switches on lamps can create a more muted, romantic feel, but candles or twinkle lights are even better for creating a lovely glow. Have a nice sized bath tub for long, restful soaks, and having a hot tub on site will please guests of all ages.

Put yourself in your guests' shoes and think about your ideal cabin vacation. Your job is to create a luxurious atmosphere inside, while Mother Nature enchants and entertains your guests outside.
